Angela Gold is...
Our beloved daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and dear friend. She lived life fully: world traveling adventurer, teacher, photographer, taster of unique cuisines, singing, playing, sharing her creative talents.
She led congregations in joyous song and reverence from Colorado to California, and from Missouri to Hong Kong.
She lived with incredible grace through her adventure with illness, always seeking to learn and grow, and never defined by her health, but always by her positive energy (and a generous helping of silliness).
Angela often thought of writing her own song, but she never quite settled on just the right words to put to music. So she contributed her skillful instrumentation and her harmonious voice to the songs of so many others.
We have been overwhelmed by the beautiful stories from friends all over the world who have been touched by Angela's presence.
She is with us still.

I share my heartfelt condolences to all those who knew and loved Angela.
I moved to the Bay area in 2015, and was looking for a Jewish community and belonging. I went to a synagogue alone for Rosh Hashanah services and didn't feel like I connected so much with the community. I was walking home feeling lonely when I heard the most beautiful singing and guitar, which I followed, and which led me to Angela and Rabbi Bridget of Jewish Gateways under their tent. At which point, my heart felt full and the rest is history... I returned for every high holiday service. Singing in community became one of the most profound experiences in my new life, and helped shape who I am today, even giving me the courage to embark on a year-long solo spiritual journey around the world. I can hear Angela's voice now singing 'return again to your soul' and have so much gratitude for having briefly known her. She truly brought love and spirit and music into a room in a way that touched your soul. <3

Angela, with her beautiful voice and her lovely demeanor, drew us all in when she sang. We have attended the High Holy Days for several years and looked forward to hearing and seeing her. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this very sad time.

Dear family of Angela Gold, I write to express our sadness for you and your family at the loss of such a vibrant and engaging soul. Our family attended High Holy Days services at Jewish Gateways in Berkeley for several years and were fortune to hear Angela's singing and guitar playing throughout the services. She made the songs accessible and touched our hearts. Last year when Angela was not there, we were told she was at home and we all said prayers for her. We truly missed her presence and her warmth. I can't imagine how you all must be feeling at this time. Angela truly made a positive and lasting impact in our community. May her memory be for a blessing. I was a wayward and wandering Jew when I walked into High Holiday services at the JCC - East Bay back in the fall of 2014. I was 6 months pregnant and didn't have much of a plan, but something in me said: "bring this growing life to Rosh Hashanah services." When Angela's beautiful music washed over me, I knew I was in the right place. Until meeting Angela, my only experiences with cantors had been people who sang songs I did not understand in a manner that did not resonate with me. Angela changed all of that. Her angelic voice and accessible style invited me back to Judaism. And one year later, I was at High Holiday services again with my baby daughter, singing along with Angela and the congregation.
A year after that, Angela did something I will never forget. My daughter (going on 2 years old at the time) LOVED the song Bim Bom. It wasn't Shabbat, but Angela adapted the song for Rosh Hashanah with a "L'Shanah Tovah" instead of a "Shabbat Shalom" and gave my little girl a private rendition after services were over. My daughter was transfixed by her and I'm confident that she absorbed some of Angela's magic that day because she continues to love music, and especially Jewish music. We listen to the Jewish Gateways songs every year to prepare for the High Holidays and my daughter refers to it as "Angela music." And we will call "Angela music" forevermore...
My deepest condolences to all who knew and loved Angela. May memories of Angela and the legacy of her beautiful music be blessings in this world of ours.

Angela was my partner, my teacher, our harmony and melody in one. On holidays and weekdays she sang, through illness and hardship she sang, for the children and the elders she sang, played the guitar and harmonized the music of her soul. Thank you Angela! We love you and will never forget your beautiful spirit and angelic voice. May your memory and your music and spirit always be for a blessing.

I knew Ángela through the music she played at Jewish Gateways High Holiday Services. She was a gentle, warm, beautiful, spirit - her music conveyed her spirit and it was a true blessing to share those services with her. I am deeply sorry for your loss and wish you healing and peace.

Angela was a bright light. She will be sorely missed. She had a lovely spirit, beautiful voice, and engaging smile and presence. My favorite part of the High Holy Services was her singing and playing guitar.

Angel sung for years at our lovely outdoor High Holiday services in Berkeley, CA - and was the spiritual glue that held the congregation together from beginning to end. Her sweet smile, lovely voice, and gentle persona were to be loved by all who knew her. I am stunned to learn that this beautiful person's life on Earth was shortened.
May you continue to charm those in Heaven with your lovely spirit, Angela!

Angela's wonderful voice and guitar was a high spot in the many services she participated in at Jewish Gateways in Berkeley, California, where I was privileged to listen to her and to share in her music. But Angela was more than a musician; she was a spiritual leader with an enormous heart. I am so sorry to learn of her passing, and I will miss her. When I read about her funeral, I was struck to learn that she was from St. Louis. I was born and raised in University City, and my husband was from Clayton, where his parents, particularly his mother, were active members of United Hebrew for many, many years. Our daughter was the first to be married in the "new" synagogue on Conway, and I was confirmed at Shaare Emeth--many, many years ago. My brother-in-law, Allen Weintrop, was the photographer for events and graduating classes at United Hebrew for as long as I can remember. I feel a real connection to Angela's family because of this, and I send you my deep sympathy. Eleanor Margulis

It speaks volumes to Angela that I last saw her 20 years ago and I my memories of her are as clear as ever. I still picture her on the bima at Beth Shalom singing, teaching, laughing, and showing everyone her larger than life smile. It sounds so cliche to say that one life can have a ripple effect, but with her, it is genuinely true. Her love of Judaism and music was contagious and it is impossible to know how far that influence goes. What a blessing to the world. Her legacy is eternal.

Thank you for the time we had with Angela. As a member of Congregation Beth Jacob we so enjoyed her musical contributions to the Power Hour service, her guitar and voice and beautiful soul. I also treasure the jewelry that I purchased from her at several Hanukkah Festivals. She has been much missed here in Redwood City. Heaven has earned another angel. Rest in Peace Angela.

Angela was such a beautiful part of our Goldman Union Camp Institute (GUCI) community, and particularly our Avodah. She brought her kind heart and generous personality to our very close Unit and we’ll always cherish that time together.
We’ve been listening to a recording she made of all of us following her song leading during our 20 year reunion. It was as if time had not passed at all, and her voice will always be with us.
We are cherishing these times we had with her. May her memory be for a blessing.

My memory of Angela first dates back to Robin's wedding, seeing her singing with her sister, being part of name ceremonies and gender reveal parties. She had a light that shined from her. She comes from a beautiful loving family. Lots of love, talent and respect for one another. She is in my prayers and my students' prayers. May God bless you and your family always with comfort and peace and love. Kathleen and Shelton Scott and family

I knew Angela from the beginning. She was a joyful, creative, child who always found the fun in the activities. I remember Elaine, Angela and Robin visiting us in Toronto and marvelling at how we could walk to a store from our house! We had a wonderful time in the city and in the lake district. Angela's music became the beautiful expression of her beautiful soul. It moved her - and inspired others. What a lovely gift that she shared with so many. She leaves a legacy of friends around the world who have experienced her beaming smile, her musical talent, and her kindness. She was well loved by many, including our family.
