Half a century!! 50. This birthday should be a big one to celebrate.  I remember when we were kids thinking: when would I ever catch up to you? And then realizing, you will always be my big sister. I can't "catch up"! And here we are, you forever a young 43. It's a strange world we live in that just keeps turning and going without you in it. Your nieces growing up without your presence and influence in their lives. I'm grateful that we find ways to talk about you and include you in their daily conversations. Remembering moments, humor, silliness, noting surprising similarities.

As we approach Thanksgiving too, I am grateful that we have held onto these pieces of you and your memory is a blessing to us.

We salvage gratitude in a world that has been so torn by ignorance, hatred, and violence.

Now more than ever, we all need a reason to  live up to your words, and harmonize. More than to simply respect, coexist, or tolerate. But to find the best parts of each other whether religious, political, or cultural, and blend them into something beautiful that will pull us out of the darkness.

You taught all those of us who knew you to harmonize, to blend our voices, to unite. And while our world keeps turning, years advancing beyond the numbers we had with you. You continue to inspire with your  experience and wisdom which extends beyond this physical place and a reminder to harmonize, that I will always look up to.

You are always my big sister. Even though I've passed you in living years. When I have questions and search for answers in spirit, or in prayer, I look up to you. 💕
